With one of the most interesting and original plots (well at least to me) since Face/Off, there is no possible way to not enjoy The Truman Show. It is a very good movie from almost every aspect. The movie is about a television show called The Truman Show, that shows the life of Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) 24 hours a day, seven day a week. This has been going on his whole life, without him knowing. Everything in his world is synthetic, except him. All the residents of the fake town, Seahaven, he lives in are actors, including his wife (Laura Linney) and his best friend (Noah Emmirich). The show is run by a man by the name of Christof (Ed Harris), who controls everything that goes on in the town to the slighest breeze of wind. Well, some strange occurances take place in his town and Truman begins to get the suspicion that something wrong is going on. That is all I'm going to tell about it, because it is best to see the movie knowing as little as possible about it. I think that if I hadn't read so much about the movie, I would have like it even more than I did.
The movie is filled with excellent performances, especially Jim Carrey's. He gives probably the best performance of his career. I wouldn't be surrised if he gets nominated for an Oscar for it. Ed Haris also does a really good job, even though he doesn't get a lot of camera time (he is, though, maybe the second most important charcter in the movie). This movie is defintiely a must-see. Even though it's only the beginning of the summer, I have a feeling there will not be another movie as good as The Truman Show during it. I could be totally wrong, but as so far, this is the best movie of the year.
